NonFiction Magazine Projects
To help them learn the different text structures we've studied, students created magazines on the topic of their choice. Each of the four articles in the magazines is written using a different text structure: chronological/sequential, compare and contrast, problem and solution, and generalization. Students designed every part of their magazines, and they really turned out nicely. Please click on the link below to view students' magazines!
Poetry Unit
Students in all three reading classes, created movements, acted out, and recorded voiceover for the poem Slam, Dunk, & Hook by Yusef Komunyakaa. These poems were recorded and turned into movies. The students all did outstanding work... check them out below!

6-Word Memoirs
Legend has it that when Ernest Hemingway was asked to write a novel in only 6 words, he came up with:
For Sale: Baby shoes, never worn.
Inspired by Hemingway’s story, our sixth graders created their own 6-word memoirs-- stories that capture who they are right now and what they value at this time of their lives. The results are heart-felt, hilarious, devastating, sad, and full of good lessons. Please take a look at the video below to see their memoirs:
